$40 million rehabilitation project of the Sierra Leone National Stadium to be Completed in Early 2024.

It's now over a year since the official launch of the $40 million rehabilitation project of the Siaka Steven Stadium which is located in the country's capital, Freetown after over 40 years of use.
The current ongoing renovation of the National Stadium is to turn the old structure to an ultra-modern one.
The Government of Sierra Leone through the ministry of sport , charged the responsibility to a Chinese construction company to rebrand the Stadium.The project description involve the transformation of every part of the stadium (the football pitch, basketball field, swimming pool and gym etc. The renovation is still ongoing and it's s expected to be completed in early 2024.

The development also means Sierra Leone will play their home match outside of the country as the Stadium is the only venue in the country to host international matches across all national teams. So they have to play their 2023 Nations Cup home qualifiers matches most likely in Conakry,.Guinea.

According to Daddy Brima in an interview, "it's in our disadvantage to playing our home matches away from home, but it's pleasing that the stadium is now being renovated. It's better to do it now than later."

Talking to the Minister when he visited the site, he said: “I am impressed with the way the work is going. After the completion, we would have a modernised stadium with the latest sporting facilities for our various sporting disciplines”
He added: “This is to tell you that our concern is about the development of Sports in all sectors. Remember, our youths love sports. Our H.E President Maada Bio loves and cares for the young people. As a Minister I will always complement the effort of my President”.

The project which cost $40 million started in February 2022 and has been greatly intensified to catch up with the allocated time after so many calls from sport sympathizers in the country.
